Although people have seen them hundreds of times as subjects in Renaissance paintings, seeing the sights of Venice in person can almost make one’s heart stop. While the Rialto and the Bridge of Sighs are quite remarkable in their own right, nothing can prepare a visitor for seeing the Santa Maria Salute for the first time. The church exterior is richly decorated with religious icons and scenes, and the inside is equally as impressive with paintings and statues created by famous artists in history.

Visiting a volcano doesn’t generally top the list of must-go-to places, but Thrihnukagigur Volcano in Iceland is a rare geological wonder. Last erupting four thousand years ago, it is the only volcano on the planet that can be explored on the inside. Taking a cable car down, visitors can see the lighted interior of the magma chamber that shows off the beautiful and natural colorations. The enormity of the interior is simply intimidating. The ground space can fit three full-sized basketball courts, and it is so deep that a full-sized Statue of Liberty would easily fit.
